Plant Health Care

Your trees and shrubs are some of the most valuable things in your landscape, and some of the slowest to replace. Our plant health care service is quarterly tree and shrub care: fertilization, disease management and insect control, each applied at the right time of year so your plants stay full, green and strong. It is part of our landscaping services, and it protects everything else you have planted.

What Plant Health Care Includes

Root-Zone Fertilization

Tree fertilization and shrub fertilization delivered to the root zone to support growth, color and development.

Disease Management

We identify, treat and help prevent the diseases that thin out shrubs and weaken trees.

Insect Control

Treatments timed for the insects that feed on trees and shrubs, to stop them before they do real damage.

Quarterly Visits

Four treatments a year, each matched to what your plants need in that season.

Tree and Shrub Care Timed to the Season

Timing is everything with trees and shrubs. A fungicide applied after a disease has spread, or an insect treatment that misses the season when the pests are active, does far less good. Quarterly visits let us put down the right treatment at the right time of year, instead of reacting after the damage shows.

Healthy, well-fed plants are also better at handling stress. In a climate with long, hot summers and heavy rain, that matters.

Crape Myrtles and Crape Myrtle Bark Scale

Crape myrtles are everywhere in Baton Rouge, and so is crape myrtle bark scale. This insect shows up as white or gray crusty patches on the bark and often leaves black sooty mold on the trunk and branches. Left alone, it drains the tree's vigor and ruins the smooth bark people plant crape myrtles for. It is a good example of why insect control has to be timed to the season, not sprayed whenever someone notices a problem.

Why Trees and Shrubs Struggle Here

South Louisiana is a great place to grow things, which is exactly why pests and diseases do so well here too. Heat and humidity favor fungus. Insects have a long season. And water is its own problem: beds that stay waterlogged after rain can cause root rot in plants like boxwoods and a fast decline in many trees and shrubs. If your beds hold water, landscape drainage may need to come first, because no treatment can fix roots that are sitting in it.

Plant Health Care vs. Lawn Treatments

Our lawn fertilization and weed control is built for grass. Trees and shrubs have their own needs, their own pests and their own timing, so they get their own treatments. Plenty of properties need both, and having one local team handle the lawn and the landscape means nothing falls through the cracks.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Have another question? Visit our FAQ page or call (225) 405-1816.

What is plant health care?

It is a program of quarterly treatments for your trees and shrubs: root-zone fertilization, disease management and insect control, each applied at the right time of year.

How often do you treat?

Four times a year. Quarterly visits let us match each treatment to the season.

What problems does it address?

Nutrient shortfalls that dull color and slow growth, plant diseases, and insects that feed on trees and shrubs.

Can it help with crape myrtle bark scale?

Crape myrtle bark scale is an insect problem, and insect control timed to the season is part of every plant health care program. If your crape myrtles have white crusty patches or black, sooty bark, mention it when you ask for a quote.

Is this the same as my lawn treatment?

No. Your lawn treatments are for the grass. Plant health care is a separate service focused on trees and shrubs.
